Look And Feel Better

While Maintaining Optimum Oral Health

Regular cleanings make sure your teeth and gums not only look their best but also remain healthy.

Our certified dental hygienist takes a comprehensive approach to plaque, tarter and stain removal. Both plaque and tarter contribute to tooth decay while plaque also causes gum disease.

Our gentle approach to cleaning uses the expertise of our Hygienist, modern treatments and techniques supported with state-of-the-art equipment.

We start your cleaning with an inspection of your teeth and gums for signs of irritation, swelling, decay or bleeding. To maximize your comfort we use a specialized instrument that uses mild vibrations to loosen tarter and gently spray water to wash it away. Scalers, designed to remove smaller deposits and smooth the surfaces are then used. Tooth polishing removes remaining bacteria while delivering a brighter smile. We finish with a Fluoride treatment to strengthen your teeth and protect against dental plaque and tarter.

Teeth Cleaning Q/A

Q | Are cleanings good for your teeth?

A | Regular dental cleanings are an important part of maintaining good oral hygiene. Removing plaque and tartar (hardened plaque that can only be removed by a dentist) from your teeth, helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease. If not removed regularly, it can lead to cavities and gum disease.

Dental cleanings usually include teeth polishing to make them look brighter and feel smoother. You may also be treated with fluoride to strengthen your tooth enamel and protect against decay.

Your dentist may conduct an oral cancer check as well as look for other anomalies in and around your mouth.

Dental cleanings are an important part of your overall wellness and help keep you healthy.

Q | Is teeth cleaning permanent?

A | Plaque and tarter are constantly forming, even if you have a very regimented oral cleaning routine. There are many variables that determine how quickly and how much plaque and tarter form. Usually your dentist will suggest a cleaning every six months but may also have another recommendation based on your specific situation.

Q | Is teeth cleaning painful?

A | Teeth cleaning is rarely painful. Most people find dental cleanings to be very comfortable and often feel a positive difference after treatment. Typically the only challenge to comfort level of cleaning is sensitive teeth or gums. Your dental hygienist and dentist will work with you to minimize any sensitivity.

Some dentists have embraced new technologies and treatments that produce better results and reduce or eliminate sensitivity. Talk to your dentist about the options.

During treatment you may feel slight pressure or scraping as the scaler is used, but this is generally not painful.

If you have experienced discomfort in the past, talk to your dental professional before the appointment. They can help address your concerns and make sure that you're as comfortable during the cleaning.

Q | How much is teeth cleaning in BC?

A | All dental procedures have a recommended price set by the British Columbia Dental Association which dentists typically follow. Generally prices for cleaning range from $180 - $500 depending on the services that are required. If it's your first time to a dentist they will perform a complete oral exam to determine your current health and recommend a treatment plan.
