Mole removal in Langley, BC
Mole removal is a procedure to remove a skin lesion after its nature and suitability for treatment have been assessed. It may be considered for a confirmed benign mole that catches, irritates or causes an appearance concern. At Ethos Dental Studio in Walnut Grove, Langley, start with a consultation to discuss your concern, the care available and whether medical or dermatology referral is needed.
A considered conversation about a skin concern, with assessment and safety before appearance.

Understanding your options
What should I know before removing a mole?
A mole is a pigmented skin growth, but not every spot or raised lesion is a mole. Diagnosis comes before cosmetic removal. Depending on the diagnosis, location and clinician’s scope of practice, removal may involve a shave procedure or surgical excision; tissue may need laboratory examination. A laser or other destructive cosmetic procedure is not appropriate for an undiagnosed or suspicious lesion because tissue may be needed for diagnosis. Ask which care is available at the studio and when a medical provider should assess or treat the area.

Is it right for you?
A confirmed benign lesion may be considered for removal if it is repeatedly irritated or its appearance concerns you. A new or changing mole, asymmetry, an irregular border, uneven colour, growth, unexplained bleeding or a sore that does not heal needs prompt medical assessment rather than routine cosmetic treatment. Skin cancer can occur in small lesions too. Tell the clinician about previous skin cancers, raised scars, medications, allergies and healing concerns. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.
A clear path forward
Know what to expect.
- 01
Discuss the skin change
Explain how long the lesion has been present and any changes in size, shape, colour or symptoms. Review your health history and arrange medical assessment first if the diagnosis is uncertain or the lesion is suspicious.
- 02
Understand the recommendation
Discuss whether monitoring, removal or referral is appropriate. Before consenting, ask who will provide care, which method is proposed, whether tissue testing is needed, and what to expect for anaesthetic, scars, fees and recovery.
- 03
Care for the area and review
If removal is appropriate and you proceed, follow the treating clinician’s wound-care and sun-protection advice. Confirm any stitch removal, healing review and how and when you will receive laboratory results if tissue is tested.
Time, fees & informed decisions
Timing, fees and recovery depend on the lesion, treatment method and any referral or laboratory testing. Removal can leave a scar; bleeding, infection, pigment changes and recurrence are possible. Neither scar-free healing nor a particular cosmetic result can be guaranteed. Contact the treating clinician about worsening pain, spreading redness, discharge, fever or bleeding that does not settle with the advised pressure.
Cosmetic mole removal is commonly paid out of pocket. Do not assume dental insurance or CDCP will cover skin-lesion assessment, removal or laboratory testing. Request a written estimate and confirm any separate medical, referral or testing fees before proceeding.

The whole face.
The person first.
A whole-face perspective includes knowing when a skin concern needs medical care rather than a cosmetic procedure. We start with your concern and explain where consultation, treatment or referral fits, without assuming every lesion should be removed.
Your priorities and comfort matter. Bring questions about the proposed clinician, method, tissue testing, recovery and scar risk so you can make an informed decision before committing to care.

Your mole removal questions.
Good care starts with a conversation. Here are a few things you might be wondering.
Can every mole be removed for cosmetic reasons?
No. The lesion first needs an appropriate assessment. A changing, suspicious or undiagnosed lesion may need medical or dermatology review and tissue testing rather than cosmetic removal. Location, health history and the treating clinician’s scope also affect the options.
What changes in a mole should I have checked?
Arrange prompt medical assessment for a new or changing lesion, asymmetry, irregular borders, uneven colour, growth, unexplained bleeding or a sore that does not heal. These signs do not establish a diagnosis, and a small lesion can still need assessment. Do not wait for a cosmetic appointment to investigate a concerning change.
Is mole removal always done with a laser?
No. The method depends on the diagnosis and whether tissue is needed for laboratory examination. A shave procedure, surgical excision, monitoring or referral may be discussed. Do not assume laser removal is appropriate or available for your lesion; confirm the proposed method with the treating clinician.
Will mole removal leave a scar?
Any removal can leave a scar or a change in skin colour. Healing depends on the site, method, skin type, health and aftercare. Discuss your tendency to form raised scars and your expectations before treatment; a scar-free result cannot be promised.
Will my mole need laboratory testing?
That decision belongs to the assessing and treating clinician. When a diagnosis is uncertain or a lesion is suspicious, tissue examination may be needed. Ask before treatment whether tissue will be tested, who will review the result and how you will be contacted.
What happens before I decide on treatment?
An assessment comes first. We review your health history, discuss the findings and explain suitable options, limitations, alternatives and any referral before you consent.
Will I receive a written estimate, and is coverage guaranteed?
We provide a written estimate after assessment; coverage is not guaranteed. Insurance and CDCP benefits, eligibility and approvals vary, and co-payments or non-covered fees may apply. Confirm your expected patient portion before proceeding.
